“I’m so excited that I could pee my pants”
That comment was made by a customer on my company’s Facebook page with the announcement of a product that my team developed. It perfectly sums up my motivations and my strengths. I love to analyze problems and solve them with creative solutions that excite and delight the customer.
I’ve excelled in several product development positions in very diverse industries and learned a great deal along the way. My personal and professional experiences have taught me the following about myself:
I have led many teams to develop great products that have a large financial impact.
– One product was valued at $80 million or 38% of annual sales at launch as is still highly rated over 10 years later.
– The announcement of one product made the valuation of my company increase by over $1,000,000 in a single day
– One product family achieved higher quality, 22% weight reduction, and 34% cost reduction and leads sales in that category.
I enjoy solving difficult problems that are driven by customer needs.
– I invented and led the development of the “Click Tight” child car seat system which solved a major safety issue for children and parents. Nearly the entire industry has attempted to copy this product.
– I developed the first automotive Carbon Dioxide refrigerant system in the USA which had dramatically lower environmental impact than existing technologies with higher heating and cooling performance.
– I led the development of a successful soft baby carrier after multiple engineers on two continents had determined that the IP landscape was “just too locked up” to be competitive. I earned three patents of my own on that product.
I’m a team player and I’m competitive
– I enjoy mentoring other engineers, designers and technicians. It’s exciting to watch them improve their skills and develop more confidence.
– My team’s products have beaten the big guys at Ford, GM, BMW, and Mercedes in head-to-head competition
– My team’s products have won numerous third-party awards ranging from Consumer Reports “Best Car Seat” to “Best of Neocon” to the US Army “Environmental Excellence Award” along with many others.
